Critter's in Nursery

Published 29.2.24

Our first critter was a giant millipede. He was all curled up, that meant he was scared so we could not hold him. We had to stroke him and he had a bumpy texture.
The second critter was a giant cockroach. When you smelt the critter, it smelt like oranges. He ticked everyone’s hand with his tiny legs!
Another critter was a scorpion! It had two pincers and a big stingy tail! We were not allowed to hold this one so he scuttled around the floor. We learnt that the scorpion’s bones are on the outside and it has an exoskeleton! From this, if we used a special light, we got to see the real colour of the scorpion which is green!
The fourth critter was a lizard! We learnt that this type of lizard, when scared, loses its tail and it re-grows. We did not want to scare him so we were quiet and most of us wanted to hold and stroke this critter!
The lizard enjoyed spending time with the children. He didn't want to leave and scuttled up onto Nadael's shoulder!
The fifth critter was another lizard. This lizard does not come from England. He comes from hot places and is green to camouflage in the trees. He is a super climber! To hold him safely, we had to hold our arms out like a tree branch so he could crawl up and perch on our shoulders! Many nursery friends wanted to hold him!
The fifth critter was a long snake. Most children didn't want to hold him because we heard him hisssssssssssssssssing and he was very heavy!
The sixth critter was a naked guinea pig. She was called Maddie, but to keep her safe we couldn't pick her up. We all went up in pairs to stroke her. Maddie was very ticklish and if you stroked her sides she laughed!! Everybody stroked Maddie :)
The seventh critter was a small owl. She had bright orange eyes! We could not all hold her because she was feeling a little grumpy and she thought our fingers were carrots- and we did not want her to gobble them up. Therefore, we had to stoke her very soft feathers on the back of her head.
The last critter was a huge tarantula! He had 8 legs and 2 thumbs! We got to take silly pictures as a spider!
