Nursery’s Autumnal Walk through the Park
This half term we have been learning all about autumn. We started the topic using the storybook, The Leaf Thief’ by Nicola Slater. We began using observations from other stories, songs and videos, as well as, exploring the school grounds.
The children enjoyed hunting for autumn treasures and equally enjoyed exploring the natural materials and sensory elements within the day-to day provision.
This included: sensory trays, leaf cutting, printing natural materials, creating natural sensory jars, feely bags, creating our initial sounds in natural materials, transient art, leaf threading, natural necklace making and so much more! We have had a busy half term!
From the children’s engagement, we followed their interests and ventured out onto the school mini bus for the very first time to Parr Fold Park. We used our senses to explore the leaves, trees, wildlife, acorns and conkers. The children used autumn language and lovely descriptions whilst exploring our senses such as what they could see, hear, touch and smell.
We ended our trip with a play on the park.
The children were an absolute credit and members of the public commended the children’s manners and behaviours.
We are already excited for out next outing in Autumn 2!
