Year 6 - Spring 2 2019
Published 1.3.19
We are excited to start the new half term and will begin our new topic ‘Why is Canada such a cool place to live?’ which has a geography focus. Following on from our study of Canada before the break, where we discovered lots of facts about where Canada is, what its land is like, what wildlife lives there and some historical information, we will begin to look at its famous mountain ranges, life in the mountains and the extreme weathers that climbers face. We will also discover some famous mountaineers and look at other significant mountain ranges around the world.
In English, we will be using the exciting Louis Sachar text ‘Holes’, a story of a young boy – Stanley Yelnats IV – and his time at the Camp Green Lake; a place you would never wish to visit! Maths will cover new areas such as algebra, 3D geometry, ratio and proportion and translation, as well as continuing to rehearse our calculation skills – both written and mental. Keep practising the multiplication tables Year Six! Science will continue to cover electricity before moving onto our new topic ‘Light and Shadows’ and in art lessons we will be discovering some famous artists of the 20th century – lots to be getting on with.
Keep checking our blog throughout Spring Term to see updates of what Year Six have been doing.
