Applications for a place at Wharton Primary School are made via Salford City Council.
How to Apply for a Nursery or Reception place:
· If your child is due to join Nursery or move into Reception, applications must be received by 15th January and you will be notified of a place on 16th April of the year of admission.
· All applications from Salford residents should be sent to the School Admissions Team by the above dates, even if you are applying to out of area or independent schools.
· Parents can find all admissions information and also apply online at: www.salford.gov.uk/apply-for-a-primary-place and www.salford.gov.uk/apply-for-a-secondary-place
Applying for a place in other Year Groups:
Children can be admitted to Wharton Primary at any point in the academic year and any parents who would like their child to be admitted are most welcome to visit beforehand. It is recommended that a visit is arranged during the school day so that our typical working day can be seen.
Parents should contact school to make an appointment and a member of staff will be made available to show them around.
It is important to note that all school admissions are coordinated through the Local Authority.
If you have any further queries or require additional information, please contact the Admissions and Exclusions Team on 0161 909 6508.

As far as possible, Salford’s Admissions and Exclusions Team will try to meet parental preferences for schools but it is not always possible to do so. Places in schools are limited by the physical space in the school. Each school has an admission number which is based on the size of the school. The standard admission number for the school is 60 and we have 30 full time Nursery places. If the school is over-subscribed there is a set of admission criteria that is operated by the Local Authority; a copy of the full admission criteria is available to the parents of all prospective pupils.
If the number of pupils requiring places at that school exceeds the admission number then not everybody will be successful in obtaining a place there. This is what we mean when a school is said to be oversubscribed.
Once you have registered interest with the Admissions Team, they will contact you to advise if you are successful in gaining a place at Wharton Primary, or whether a place at another school is being offered.
