Here at Wharton Primary School, we are proud to offer a nurturing nursery that provides children with the opportunity to play, learn, and grow in a stimulating and caring environment. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework, alongside the Development Matters guidance, to support each child’s individual learning, development and well-being.

At our nursery, every child is valued as an individual and we recognise that each child has their own unique personality, interests, strengths and needs. We celebrate their individuality and provide a nurturing, safe and inclusive environment where every child feels loved, respected and supported. We understand that children learn and develop at their own pace, and we tailor our approach to meet their individual needs, interests and stages of development. Through positive relationships, encouragement and meaningful learning experiences, we aim to build each child’s confidence, independence and self-esteem, helping them to feel secure, valued and confident to explore, learn and reach their full potential.

Supersonic phonics

The children will take part in daily phonic lessons following the Supersonic Phonics scheme. This term, we will be exploring instrumental sounds as part of our phonics learning. The children will have fun listening to, identifying, and distinguishing between different sounds made by musical instruments.

Maths

This term, we will be exploring patterns, subitising numbers up to 3, and position and space. The children will have fun recognising and creating simple patterns, learning to recognise small quantities without counting, and exploring positional language such as in, on, under, behind, and next to.

Literacy

We support children’s early literacy development through exciting, meaningful and play-based experiences linked to our topic, which for this term is 'Celebrations'. We provide opportunities for children to develop their communication, language, reading and early writing skills through stories, songs, rhymes and conversations about different celebrations and family traditions. Children are encouraged to explore a range of books linked to celebrations, such as birthdays, Diwali, Christmas, and other special occasions, helping them to develop a love of stories while learning about the world around them.

PE

PE will take place on a Thursday morning for our nursery children. They do not need to get changed into a PE kit.
